January 11-Febraury 3, 2013Opening Reception
Born in Burlington, Vermont in 1983, Adam DeVarney is a collage artist and illustrator currently living and working out of Chicago, Illinois. DeVarney graduated in 2006 from the Pratt Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art, concentrating in Drawing and Illustration.
His work is a combination of illustration, hand colored paper, and found image. It was through interests in the art of hip-hop record sampling and influences from street art culture that DeVarney began exploring the medium of collage. The artwork largely speaks to inner conflict and issues with morals and mortality. The characters depicted in the paintings are often morose, hallowed and haunting.
DeVarney has been exhibiting work for 3 years primarily in the Northeast. His work has also been featured on skateboards, skis, and in publications.
This will be Adam's first exhibit at Rotofugi Gallery.
